It is divided into three subtopics: (a) preparing the complaint, (b) filing the complaint, and (c) resolving the complaint. The first part involves essential aspects of writing a complaint and authenticating relevant evidence. The second part reviews pertinent laws relative to their advantages and disadvantages in supporting the filing of OSEC cases. The last part discusses how prosecutors resolve an OSEC complaint, appreciate police evidence, and prepare the Information.

Learners are given practical examples of the best practices in conducting effective on-scene forensics and digital forensics examination, focusing on gathering and preserving evidence to ensure admissibility in court. Learners will reflect on the importance of digital forensics in the investigation of online sexual exploitation of children cases. They are also given instruction on the challenges and common oversights in conducting the above forensics examinations.

COURSE 7: Fundamentals of Collecting Digital Evidence

This course dives into the concept of digital evidence, as well as its relation to other types of evidence, governing rules and practices, and application to cybercrimes such as OSEC. It covers the scope, significance, difference, and applicability of the different types of cybercrime warrants in gathering and preserving digital evidence. It emphasizes the various cybercrime warrant rules and exceptions under R.A. No. 11862 and R.A. No. 11930. It likewise tackles the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement actors and the private sector, e.g., business establishments, internet intermediaries and financial institutions, in effectively collecting and/or preserving evidence of OSEC.

COURSE 6: Gathering Evidence of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children

This fundamental course will provide a comprehensive and pragmatic overview of evidence needed to prove OSEC, including digital and financial evidence. It highlights the importance of child-protective strategies in investigating this crime and in gathering and preserving evidence, for instance using Videotaped In-depth Disclosure Interviews (VIDI). It also tackles the legal bases supporting the use of such victim-independent evidence, and the important actors involved therein. Learners are taught how to maximize digital evidence, capitalize financial evidence, and utilize VIDI in case investigation and build-up. Finally, they are given practical guidance on the best practices in the investigation of OSEC cases.
